bachataireland.com was created in March of 2010 by Thomas Doherty (aka Tom)
It was started as a means for promoting Bachata and sensual latin dance in Ireland.
"The salsa scene in Ireland is growing at an incredible rate, people are taking more and more classes and the standard has increased considerably in just a few short years; however on a typical club night, you would be lucky to hear 2 Bachata songs; this is changing slowly as more people discover this wonderful dance but i really would like it to take off in a big way.
I have been dancing Bachata a number of years. I remember my first class, Tony Lara and Daniela De Francesco were doing a tour of the country. I was really taken by the intensity of the dance, the connection both musically and physically.
My hope is that with the help of this website, I can share my love of Bachata with you, and you will learn to love it too" -Tom
Tom burst onto the salsa scene in 2007, and completely transformed the face of salsa in the midlands.
An instant salsa junkie and his own worst critic, he quickly rose through the ranks taking many classes in Ireland and abroad, eventually starting to teach in 2008. He teaches regular weekly classes, and at congresses, and performs with his dance partner Vanessa of RnM Dance.
In 2009 Tom completed a Bachata teacher training course with Tony Lara.
He is known in his dancing for his smooth, gentle, lead, and connection with both music and partner, and in his teaching for his intensity, attention to detail, and fresh, fun methods. Tom is not afraid to experiment with his dancing, bringing in elements from other dances, and challenging convention. He has competed and performed nationally and internationally.
"My main goal as a teacher and as a dancer is constant improvement, every class I teach, I aim to make my students as good as I am, that forces me to move myself along too, never stagnating. " -Tom
